Interpreters & Translators

HRI actively recruits volunteer interpreters and translators to provide written translations and in-person interpretation in English for HRI clients. HRI utilizes volunteer translators for many languages, including Amharic, Arabic, Farsi, French, Hindi, Kinyarwanda, Korean, Nepalese, Spanish, Vietnamese, and more.

Since HRI provides legal representation and social services to victims of human rights abuses, volunteers will be exposed to very sensitive and emotionally difficult information. Before volunteering each volunteer interpreter and/or translator must complete HRI's Online Application Form as well as review its Interpreter and Translator’s packet, which contain guidelines for how to complete translations and/or interpret for HRI, as well as a confidentiality agreement and criminal background check form. After these forms have been filled out (please note that where indicated, actual signatures are required), you may scan and email the forms to the Volunteer Coordinator, Zainab Abdulqader, at zabdulqader@hrionline.org, fax them to 214-855-0793, or mail a hard copy to Human Rights Initiative, Attn: Zainab Abdulqader, 2801 Swiss Avenue, Dallas, TX 75204.

If you would like more information, or to schedule a meeting, please call the main line at 214-855-0520 and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator, Zainab Abdulqader. Thank you for your interest.
