PrestonPettit is a Dallas Born native and joined HRI on February 10, 2010 as theSocial Media Coordinator through the AmeriCorps VISTA Program.  AmeriCorpsVISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) a federally funded program through theCorporation for National and Community Service, providing full-time members tocare-based and other community organizations to create and expand programs thatultimately bring low-income individuals and communities out of poverty. In order to utilize new means of constituency building, HRI is focusingon social media.  Social media is media designed to be disseminatedthrough social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalablepublishing techniques.  Social media uses Internet and web-basedtechnologies to transform broadcast media monologues (one to many) into socialmedia dialogues (many to many).  Social media supports the democratizationof knowledge and information, transforming people from content consumers intocontent producers.  Preston  graduated from Austin College in Sherman,Texas and holds a Bachelor's of Arts in Philosophy.  He is focused onbuilding the strengths of the organization and open up new opportunities formarketing of HRI and its services to clients, volunteers and donors.  Inline with the VISTA Mission, Preston will better help HRI bring low incomeindividuals out of poverty.
