Mentor Program
HRI's mentoring program pairs community volunteers with some of our adult clients. The goals of the mentoring program are: To give our clients exposure to life outside of their own living situation, particularly to another person who is not involved in their asylum (or violence against women act, trafficking, etc.) case.
To help our clients integrate better into the community by connecting them to people within the community, thereby making the transition into long-term residency here smoother.
To offer interested persons from the community the opportunity to become involved, hands-on, with HRI’s work.
To encourage volunteers to become advocates for our client base, thereby increasing awareness in the community about the population with which we work.
There are no specific skills required for the mentoring program. Each mentor is asked to commit to a six month period, 2 hours per week. HRI requires that each interested mentor complete the application process, which includes an application form and Mentoring Packet, mandatory criminal background check, and training session.
