Ms. Kimberly Rafalski - 2006 Recipient, Pioneer of Freedom
 Kimberly is an original employee of HRI. She has devotedly implemented and maintained the HRI Volunteer Attorney Program that is recognized as a leader in excellence in the legal industry. She has demonstrated personal commitment to the mission of HRI and to insuring that every HRI client reaps the benefits of the superior/professional services of our agency. Her pioneering spirit also demonstrates itself in her strong sense of ownership and finding better ways to do almost every function within HRI. Kim certainly falls into the definition of pioneer and has open so many innovative ways to help people who have been victims of human rights abuses.
Mr. RafiQ Salleh - 2007 Recipient, Pioneer of Freedom
 RafiQ by profession is a Creative Art Director and he is personally responsible for creating the "HRI look". This includes everything from creating HRI's trademarked logo to every single piece of marketing materials for the agency. This work was all done at no cost to the agency, pro bono. Through the years, he remains steadfast in continuing to manage all art direction and image in both print and media for the agency. His contributions are invaluable and certainly a service HRI could never afford to pay. HRI will be forever grateful to the contributions Mr. Salleh has made and continues to make to the organization.

The Angel of Freedom is awarded to agencies or individuals that have helped/enabled HRI achieve its mission. A pioneer is actually much closer to the achievement of that mission and finding and implementing specific pioneering approaches and processes to enable better mission achievement. Without the contributions of this individual, mission achievement would be in jeopardy.
