overview
Human Rights Initiative provides legal services to victims of human rights abuses. Many HRI clients flee their homelands after experiencing torture and imprisonment because of their religious or political beliefs. Asylum cases represent the bulk of our legal caseload, but we also handle matters under the Violence Against Women Act and the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act. Legal services are delivered primarily through the agency’s extensive network of volunteer attorneys.
Human Rights Initiative also provides a limited range of other services to its legal clients. These include referrals to appropriate area service providers, job search assistance, group activities, and individual guidance. While Human Rights Initiative typically provides these services only to legal clients and their families, the agency does make exceptions in certain narrow circumstances.
Provision of services is limited to clients living in the north Texas area.
