A Call for Volunteers
A CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS......
During HRI's last fiscal year we provided legal or social services in over 420 cases. Our small staff is only able to assist this many individuals because of the strong and generous contributions of the local community. Many people from various backgrounds contact us on a regular basis, asking how they can volunteer. The thing we hear most often is: "I'm not an attorney, so I know there's nothing I can do to help." This is not the case. HRI began by using the pro bono model to provide cost-effective free legal services. We have since expanded our volunteer program and we now utilize volunteers from various fields of expertise.
In fact, HRI is dependent upon volunteers like you to assist our clients and our organization in a variety of ways. Volunteers have assisted HRI with many different projects such as event planning, fundraising, country conditions research, human resources, finance, and creative writing. HRI also offers a mentoring program and a volunteer interpreter/translator program. We hold an information training session quarterly for new volunteers. If you would like to volunteer as a mentor or interpreter/translator, please attend one of our upcoming trainings.
In addition, HRI is in the process of creating a new lecture series for our clients and would appreciate volunteers to serve as speakers. We have plans to offer information at the sessions including budgeting, home purchasing, and leadership. Do you have an idea for a topic you would like to speak on? If so, please contact Bonner Allen. Or if you have a different area of expertise and would like to discuss how you can contribute to HRI's mission, please contact Kimberly Rafalski.
