Monday, May 12th 2008 Dear Friends, With growth comes growing pains! We would like to apologize for the previous e-mail you received introducing our new website launch. Unfortunately the links in the e-mail were not working, but we are so excited for you to see the new website, our technical assistance people inform us they are now fixed. We hope you will give it another try. This has been a very special week for Human Rights Initiative. We have two significant developments to share with you. First, we received notification that we are the recipient of the Arthur C. Helton Memorial Human Rights Award from the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). This is a national award given to recognize outstanding service in advancing the cause of human rights. The award was established in 1983 and was renamed in 2003 to honor Arthur C. Helton, who died that year in the bombing of the United Nations Headquarters in Baghdad. This is AILA's highest award in the area of human rights. The award will be presented at the annual AILA conference in Vancouver, BC, Canada on Saturday June 28. This is an enormous honor and validation of the work we do at HRI on a daily basis. We are deeply grateful for this honor and recognition. HRI is also proud to announce the launch of its new and improved website on May 9, 2008. This redesigned website reflects HRI's commitment to quality in all aspects of what we do - including communicating with you through the content of our site. Please take a moment to view our new website, still located at www.hrionline.org. You will immediately notice the enhanced graphics, but click on any feature to see the improved content and ease of use. Our ‘News' section will allow individuals and staff to contribute to the site through secure access and allow HRI to communicate important messages to you. In addition, the architecture of this website will help it grow with HRI, remain compatible with newer Internet browsers, and provide printer-friendly versions of the site's pages. HRI is proud of its continued accomplishments and growth. But, as you know, we cannot do any of it without you. And while you're trying out our new website, if you are feeling generous or impressed, we humbly request that you consider making a donation to HRI. Your donation ensures that HRI will continue to be able to advocate for victims of human rights abuses, giving them hope for a new life. Thank you! Sincerely, The Staff of Human Rights Initiative
