Kimberly M. Rafalski
Director, Human Resource Services and Volunteer Attorney Program krafalski@hrionline.org vCard Kimberly is a Board of Immigration Appeal's (BIA) Accredited Representative, has over ten years of experience as a legal assistant specializing in Immigration and Nationality Law and eight years of experience in volunteer management. She has served as the Director of the Volunteer Attorney Program since HRI's inception in December 1999.
Kimberly is responsible for administering benefits to HRI's staff, managing the pro bono attorney program, and overseeing all volunteerism in the agency. Besides the Pro Bono Attorney Program, HRI also has volunteer programs in the areas of: Physicians, Expert Witnesses, Interpreters/Translators, and Mentors. As a BIA Accredited Representative Kimberly represents in-house clients in matters such as Adjustment of Status, Asylum, Employment Authorization, U Visas (victims of violent crimes), and Violence Against Women Act cases.
In 2006 HRI honored Kimberly with the Pioneer of Freedom award. A "pioneer" is an individual who assists HRI in achieving its mission, finding and implementing specific pioneering approaches towards mission achievement. The award was presented to Kimberly for the success of HRI's Volunteer Attorney Program. Prior to joining HRI, Kimberly worked as a legal assistant for Tidwell, Swaim & Associates, P.C., a law firm specializing in Immigration and Nationality Law. She also volunteered as a legal assistant, assisting asylum seekers in filing their affirmative asylum submissions. She graduated with honors from Midwestern State University with a Bachelors degree in Applied Arts and Science and also holds a Paralegal Certificate from Arlington Career Institute.
